Research Associate William H. Lazonick is University Professor at the University of Massachusetts Lowell and Distinguished Research Professor at INSEAD. He specializes in the study of industrial development and international competition.

His research seeks to understand how institutions and organizations support innovative enterprise, and the implications for income distribution and employment stability. In recent years, he has written extensively on the influence of financial institutions on innovation and employment. Many of his papers are available at http://faculty.insead.edu/Lazonick/. Previously, he was assistant and associate professor of economics at Harvard University (1975–1984) and professor of economics at Barnard College of Columbia University (1985–1993).

Lazonick holds a B.Com. from the University of Toronto, an M.Sc. from the London School of Economics, and a Ph.D. from Harvard University. In 1991, Uppsala University awarded him an honorary doctorate for his work on the theory and history of economic development.
