Macroeconomic and Microeconomic Aspects of Policy Interventions to Reduce the Burden of Unpaid Activities

Accra, Ghana
May 7, 2019

The Levy Institute, with the generous support of the Hewlett Foundation, is organizing a workshop titled “Macroeconomic and Microeconomic Aspects of Policy Interventions to Reduce the Burden of Unpaid Activities.” The workshop will take place on Tuesday, May 7, 2019, at the Ministry of Finance in Accra. Ghana Statistical Service is collaborating with the Levy Institute in organizing the event, which is to be cohosted by the United Nations Development Programme office in Ghana.

The primary purpose of the workshop is to present the study undertaken by the Levy Institute with support from the Hewlett Foundation on the costs and benefits of expanding early childhood education and road improvements in Ghana and Tanzania. Our workshop aims to elicit responses to our study from experts as well as a select group of senior government officials, academics, and representatives of civil society. Additionally, we are convening a session that explores the linkages between infrastructure deficits, household economic well-being, and gender disparities in both countries from a policy perspective. A panel discussion on emerging trends and problems of social and economic development in the two countries will be led by a diverse group that represents views from the spheres of economics, human and gender rights, and public action.

*Attendance is by invitation only
