Sanjaya DeSilva is assistant professor of economics at Bard College.
He specializes in development microeconomics. His current research
is on the impact of education and employment policies on household-level
decisionmaking. When he was a visiting fellow at the Department
of Economics, University of Colombo in 2004, he started a book-length
research project on the free education and public sector employment
programs in Sri Lanka. He is also working on a theoretical paper
that uses signaling and principal-agent models to explain how equity-based
education and employment policies may encourage students to over-invest
in unproductive forms of learning. Previously, DeSilva studied incentive
problems in land and labor contracts in rice farms. A forthcoming
paper will appear in the American Journal of Agricultural Economics
on labor supervision and institutional conditions in rice farms
in the Philippines. DeSilva received a B.A. from Macalester College,
St. Paul, Minnesota, and a Ph.D. in economics from Yale University. |
