Yassine Fall is UNIFEM’s Senior Economic Advisor with 27 years of field, policy, and management experience. She is a founding member of several international networks including the African Women Millennium Initiative on Poverty and Human Rights (AWOMI), the Gender and Economic Reforms in Africa (GERA), the International Gender and Trade Network (IGTN), and the Beijing Caucus for Economic Justice, which led to the “Women’s Eyes on the World Bank Campaign.” Before joining the UN, for 12 years she managed her own consultancy firm (Economists for Social Transformation in Africa) working throughout the continent, from economically challenged countries, urban slums, and rural areas to countries in conflict and refugee camps, on assignment for various development agencies, focusing on issues ranging from macroeconomics and poverty analysis, international trade assessment, emergency relief operations, HIV/AIDS assessment, natural resources management, land tenure, child labor studies, gender and development, and food security. Every two years, back in her country Senegal, she organizes the Young Women Knowledge and Leadership Institute (YOWLI), which brings about one hundred young women and men from all regions of Africa and its Diaspora to learn, network, and strategize for organized action to influence macroeconomics and international policies.
