Sylvia Tereka has a Master’s Degree in Development Studies.  She also has over fifteen years in technical, advisory and management positions within the United Nations and national government in development and humanitarian related work, and managing conflicts and internal displacements. Experience in integrating gender in PRSPs, National Development Plan, Reconstruction Programmes, conflict resolution and peace building. 

Sylvia is currently a Member of the National Planning Authority Board, responsible for integrating gender in the National Development Plan.  Worked with the UN Transitional Administration as a Civil Affairs Officer and deployed in three positions:  District Health Advisor, District Advisor, and Advisor to the Chief of Local Government, 2000-2002.  She contributed to the formulation of Health Sector Rehabilitation Plan in post conflict East Timor 2001-2004; and to the UN’s successful work of the birth of the nation of East Timor. Was a Coordinator for CARE International, Emergency Health Services Programme for IDPs in Northern Uganda 2002-03; and contributed to the establishment of health services for IDPs. Was a National Health Economist at World Health Organization for 8 and a half years, where she provided technical support to the Primary Health Care Programme, Health Policy and Health Planning; Health Financing Programme; and Monitoring of the progress towards Health For All/2000.  Was an Economist with the Ministry of Planning and Economic Development 1987 – 1991, and contributed to the formulation of Uganda’s Economic Recovery Plans 1987-1992.
