2009 Knowledge Networking Program on Engendering Macroeconomics and International Economics

The 2009 GEM-IWG two-week intensive workshop took place on June 29 – July 10 at The Levy Economics Institute in Annandale-on-Hudson, New York, with support provided by UNIFEM, UNDP(RBLAC), the Ford  Foundation, IDRC (Canada), Heinrich Boll Foundation (USA) and the Levy Economics Institute. The focus of this year’s workshop was on the global crisis that originated in the United States in 2007 and by 2009 had engulfed the entire world economy and had two objectives: (a) capacity building in research, teaching, policy making and advocacy in this area; (b) increasing knowledge networking by strengthening the links among practitioners working on gender, macroeconomics and international economics. The program was attended by economists from throughout the world who work in academia, research institutions, in government and civil society organizations. Following the two week workshop a two day conference on the theme of Gender and the Global Crisis was held at the United Nations Headquarters in New York City, co-organized by the Government of Mexico, GEM-IWG, UNDESA/UNDAW, UNDP, UNIFEM, The Levy Economics Institute of Bard College and IDRC (Canada) with additional support from the Ford Foundation (U.S.A.), and with the participation of the Government of Canada.
