Why Time Deficits Matter: Policy Implications for Poverty Eradication Strategies

A Levy Institute Research Project undertaken with the generous support of the UNDP and ILO

Blithewood
Annandale-on-Hudson, New York

February 17–18, 2011

The purpose of the workshop is to discuss the ongoing work on developing estimates of time poverty and time-adjusted income poverty for three countries: Argentina, Chile, and Mexico. Participants will discuss data and methods; issues in the cross-country comparisons of income-poverty estimates; alternative approaches to the estimation of thresholds for time poverty; alternative approaches to the valuation of household production; and methods of statistical matching. Participants will also be sharing country-specific background information regarding the (changing) nature of household composition structures; data that summarize the evolution of social sector spending; and the nature of the care regime in each country. It is expected that the work plan for the remaining tasks for each country will be finalized by the conclusion of the workshop.

This workshop is the first in a series. The second, upcoming in August 2011, is outlined here.
